These past few days, I have observed that our weather was very unpredictable. When I woke up this morning, it was kind of cloudy and now it was so hot! And just two days ago, I woke up in my afternoon nap and found out that it was raining. I am very sure that in no time, rainy season will soon be here. I don’t like rain that much; I think it is very messy when it’s raining. When I was a student, I was really having a hard time going to school especially when there’s a storm and classes were not yet suspended.
What I am doing now is getting our house repaired for our preparation for upcoming storms because the news said that there will be stronger storms and typhoons compared last year. I just want to be ready as early as possible so advice to everyone to do the same thing.
The one thing that I am proud of about being a Filipino is our rich culture. We have a lot of culture here in our country, and most of it was inherited to other foreign countries. Aside from our culture, the thing that makes us definitely unique among other countries is our means of transportation.
Here in the Philippines, we use different kinds of transportation like cars, bus, bikes, motorbikes, tricycle and the most popular is the king of the road, the jeepney. The jeepney here in the Philippines can accommodate up to 16 to 18 passengers. Isn’t it amazing that a small vehicle can accommodate that much? Well, it’s only here in the Philippines.
Not only is the jeepney a very convenient way to travel, but also a very enjoyable one. In Manila, they have the what they call “jeep na patok”. This jeepney is definitely very unique among the other jeepneys in Metro Manila since they are the only ones who have large speakers and their speed is very fast. The passengers will surely have mixed emotions if they chose to ride on that kind of jeepney. In some parts of the country particularly in Olongapo City, their jeepneys are color coded. It’s not only pleasing to the eyes but also very convenient to motorist, passengers and for all of the people in the city since their everyday transportation is very organized. Some countries also have their jeepney but not as good as we have here in the Philippines.
If we have concern about the betterment of our town, we should keep our public market clean and organize because this is where we buy almost every food that we eat. Don’t let garbage be everywhere because they can contaminate the raw foods near them. Just like what we have seen yesterday, the place where they sell “ICE” is just 3 steps away from the place where they dispose their garbage and it really smelled so awful! So imagine those people buying their ice to put on their drinks and selling it to other people. And not to mention, the ice is just on the floor.
I think it is not only the local government’s responsibility to keep our public markets clean, it is the people that are primarily liable on keeping it organized. Those rules and regulations imposed are useless if we don’t follow them. We should remember that what we see around us reflects who we really are.
Reading is one of the basic tools in the living of a good life. We can learn almost everything we are fond of reading. It can widen our knowledge and can give us information necessary to make us aware of about everything. There are a lot of things to be read. We have books, broadsheets, magazines, tabloids, advertisements, brochures and a lot more.
For us to feel most beautifully alive means to be reading something beautiful. There are reading materials that we need to avoid, those materials that can give us undesirable and misleading information. We have to be careful in choosing our reading materials, especially when we want the best facts about something. According to Francis Bacon, “some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention.” So if you want to become the best person you have never been, start reading.
